2019 Scholarship Applications Are NOW Open!
Hemophilia of Iowa, Inc. is extremely blessed to have the opportunity to provide such great individuals of our community financial assistance for higher education! HOI will begin accepting applications January 1, 2019 and the application will close March 15th, 2018.

If interested in applying for the David N. Brustkern Scholarship you have until April 1st 2019 to submit supporting documents.
To apply you must:
Be a 2019 Member of Hemophilia of Iowa, Inc. (HOI) through December 31, 2019. Memberships are on a calendar year schedule. Your membership must be submitted on or before March 15th, 2019 when scholarship applications are due
Member must reside in the HOI service area (State of Iowa or if outside the State of Iowa, must seek care at the UIHC Treatment Center) unless prior arrangements are made.
Must have a diagnosed bleeding disorder or be an immediate family member (sibling, child, or caregiver) of someone that has a diagnosed bleeding disorder (diagnosed bleeding disorder is defined as a person who is being followed with a treatment plan).
Verification of diagnosis may be required from your physician upon request (you will be notified if this is required).
High school graduate before or in 2019.
Be enrolled in a degree seeking program at an accredited college, university, or trade school in the United States during the 2019-2020 academic year for a minimum of 12 credit hours or considered full time.
Either you or a representative of your immediate family must be present at the Scholarship Award Ceremony at an event TBD (unless agreed upon emergency).
Community service in the bleeding disorder community
You must complete the online scholarship application with the following supporting materials:
A typed summary of not less than one paragraph and no more than one page of each of the following:
Short range and long range career plans
Personal background related to the bleeding disorder community
NEW: Recipient must attend one (1) HOI event NOT including the Scholarship Award Ceremony
EXCEPTION: Incoming freshmen are not expected to attend additional HOI event for 2019
David N. Brustkern Scholarship
Scholarships are awarded to persons that have supported the mission of Hemophilia of Iowa, Inc.To apply for the David N. Brustkern Name Scholarship you must follow all scholarship requirements listed above as well needing to also submit the following prior to April 1st:
A typed letter of recommendation from a HOI board member, member of Executive Committee, a Committee Chairperson, or someone from the HTC verifying contributions made to HOI and/or support of our mission.
A typed page essay on your involvement with your chapter and what the bleeding disorder community means to you
Add extra funding to your personal scholarship provided by Hemophilia of Iowa!
We invite all scholarship recipients to participate in selling the Scholarship Fundraiser tickets at face value. The scholarship recipient will receive half of the total tickets sold towards their scholarship.
The Scholarship Fundraiser is a family fun fundraiser event where all funds go strictly to HOI’s Scholarship Program. Fun activities, great food and entertainment is in store for you!
HOI hopes is excited for the involvement of scholarship recipients for the Scholarship Fundraiser. Our hopes are to continue to strengthen the relationships within the bleeding disorder community.
