Our Mission

Our Mission

Hemophilia of Iowa's mission is simple:

To provide education and support for people with bleeding disorders and their family and friends

The first recorded gathering of Iowan's affected by bleeding disorders occurred in 1986. This gathering was organized by Dr. Thomas Kisker, University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. Dr. Kisker united a group of parents with children that had bleeding disorders to determine how they could best support each other and their children navigate through the medical system and better understand challenges that accompany this diagnosis. This group later became known as Hemophilia of Iowa, Inc. (HOI). The organization quickly expanded to cover the entire state of Iowa.  HOI's vision is to bring awareness, education, and advocacy to the bleeding disorder community.  The first organized program held was the Hemophilia Summer Camp in 1987. Annually HOI provides programs and services that benefit the Iowa bleeding disorder community.
